Lead generation is one of the main purposes of many websites. No matter what products or services you sell on your site, it’s always a good idea to capture the details of visitors so you can reach out to them with your marketing messages.

One of the best ways to do this is to create an email sign-up form and provide visitors with something of value for free in return for filling out the form.

These are often called ‘lead magnets’

This technique has been used for many years, but one of the problems is that many businesses simply create an ebook that does not have any real value and then expect visitors to sign up for it.

To get more sign-ups, you might have to go a bit further and provide something different. So here are three ideas for lead magnets that you might want to consider using.

    1. Exclusive Content Library

While one free ebook may be tempting, a whole library of exclusive content will be even more attractive. If you have built up a collection of ebooks, white papers and free reports over the years, consider adding them to a special gated section of your website.

This content library can be exclusive to sign ups, and you can also add to it regularly to continue to provide value. You might include videos, webinars that you ran and anything else that will be useful.

In your email newsletters, you can then highlight new additions to your library to keep driving people back to your site and continue to provide them with value.

    1. Email Course

Another option is to create your very own course that you deliver to sign-ups in email format. It doesn’t have to be long or complex. Instead, simply create a series of five or so emails that you can send out over the course of a few weeks.

You can then provide useful knowledge and skills to your subscribers so that they will get value from the information. This will also help to get them into the habit of opening up your emails, which will be useful when you send emails over the coming months.

    1. Special Offer

One option that can prove to be really tempting for visitors is a special offer. If you sell products directly, why not provide a 10% discount on their first purchase? That can be a powerful draw, especially if they have seen something of interest.

You can experiment with offers. Try a 15% discount, a free month, a coupon and more, and see which works the best. You could even sign them up for a regular newsletter that contains more offers each month.

    Try Out Different Lead Magnets

If you want to generate leads from your website, a good lead magnet is essential. These are just three of the options to consider – and, of course, there is nothing wrong with ebooks. If you have created a value-packed ebook, by all means use it, but just make sure that you consider the other possibilities as well.
