Our History
Google founded
Google launches AdWords
Web Results Direct is Founded
WRD founded by David Glaser and Steve Cooper. Starts life as Web Results Direct, working from David’s basement in Haslemere delivering SEO, PPC, and analytics/stats services to a largely uneducated world (digitally speaking.)
LinkedIn & MySpace Launched
Web Results Direct partners with a number of web development agencies and marketing consultants that have a need for digital marketing services. Some of these partnerships are still in place today.
Google’s Florida Update
Google releases the Florida update aimed at reducing spam and manipulation in the search results.
Developing Contacts
Web Results Direct wins business from major names, such as Vodafone, Cable & Wireless, HM Government, Dyno-Rod, McCarthy & Stone, Harrods Bank, Cluttons, and Center Parcs
Facebook Founded
Web Results Direct becomes a Trusted Feed provider to the Overture group of search engines (Alta Vista, Lycos, MSN, Yahoo web pages and others).
Google Maps Launched
Web Results Direct holds a successful web marketing seminar at the Madejski Stadium.
Growing the Company
Web Results Direct hires its first employee, Louise Josey (stupidly, Lou is still with us.)

Twitter launched, Google buys YouTube & DoubleClick
Move to Peper Harow
Web Results Direct relocates from a basement to its current offices in Peper Harow, Godalming, world remains largely unimpressed with digital marketing and still sends prospects letters and goes to expos and shows to win business

Further Growth
Web Results Direct expands to 6 members of staff, working across SEO and PPC. Adrian Barry joins (best year). Google launches Google Chrome, releases Android OS.
Instagram launches
Web Result Direct’s staff numbers rocket to an almost unmanageable 8 people

Google’s Panda Update
Google releases Panda algorithm update, world explodes. Aimed at reducing rankings for low-quality sites, “content farms”/article marketing sites, and duplicate content. Often utilised by not-very-good SEO agencies and Black Hat SEOs, large numbers of sites globally were hit. Luckily WRD’s clients all avoided any issues, due to our strict White-Hat SEO approach.
Google’s Penguin Update
Google releases Penguin algorithm update, world explodes again. This update was again focussed on dodgy SEO tactics, specifically link building schemes to gain rankings. As before, WRD’s clients were unscathed due to our almost saintly commitment to White-Hat SEO.

Google’s Hummingbird Update
World fails to explode
Expanding Client Base
Web Results Direct counts organisations like the Jockey Club, Wireless Logic, Forces War Records, McCarthy & Stone, Merlin Events, and Chessington World of Adventures as clients

Google rebranding
Google gets new logo. Web Results Direct doesn’t. Google “Mobilegeddon” happens, but the “geddon” bit wasn’t all that
Google Rebranding
Google releases a number of major algorithm updates including Possum, Fred, Medic, Bert. Web Results’ staff numbers multiply like dirty rabbits to 15. Clients include Blanco, Hughes Network Systems, EchoStar Mobile, Fujifilm Europe, Granite Transformations, and a bunch of tech/software/security companies we’re not allowed to mention, ever.

Web Result’s Direct Rebranding
Google+ gets shut down, world is unsurprised, and no-one cares. Web Results Direct gets new logo, Google doesn’t and sticks with its tired old rubbish logo.

COVID Strikes
Web Results Direct seamlessly moves to remote and then hybrid working. Provides support to clients that needed to reduce activity or adjust their business model to target new customers or upgrade their websites to ecommerce to allow online sales.
Return to Office
Employees now number 17, plus an occasional office dog. Clients include Sun Chemical, West Fraser, Zotefoams, RWC, John Guest, BGL Golf, Ninja Warrior, Basis Technologies, Travelopia, as well as several irritating clients who won’t let us talk about them
Becoming WRD
After over 20 years as Web Results Direct, we decided it was time to bring ourselves into the 21st century. We rebranded to WRD, new logo, new name, new website, new domain (wrd.agency), new design approach, new content, same optimal number of employees. We released a range of free digital and SEO tools and chucked an addictive retro game on our homepage

In to the Future…
With the site settling down and our new brand bedded in, we’re excited to see what this year holds for us, our clients, and partners. If you’d like to join us on our journey, get in touch. Unless you’re selling logos, then we’re not interested, although we know a brand who might be…
